Seven Channel Video, Found Sound and Color
A work that explores color and sound relationships. Answering the question of how to describe a color without naming the color itself.

Artist Statement:
ROYGBIV sounds like this is a video created on Premiere Pro with seven total channels being displayed on the screen at once. Playing at one minute and forty-six seconds long, the piece is a combination of two elements: color and sound. In this work, I wanted to explore the question of how to describe a color without naming the color itself. What embodies the essence of a color, and is there a specific feeling associated with it? A specific memory? Really, by translating colors as adjectives to colors as nouns, I wanted to find a way for color to be a form of existence in itself. Through my personal relationship with sound and color, I use a multitude of different artificial and natural sounds to describe color. Each channel on the screen is a varying size, and has one of the colors of ROYGBIV. Each color remains dimly lit until activated by its corresponding sound. The video plays through each color and repeats to play all of the sounds and colors together at the end. This piece is really a starting point for a concept regarding color relationships. There are infinite combinations of sound and color; sound only being the jumping off point. I hope in the future to explore all of the senses as they relate to color.
Installation Plans:
This work would be installed in a dark room. With comfortable chairs scattered in the room, viewers can come in and take a seat to experience both the visual and auditory quality of the work. Multiple screens would hang at different sizes and heights across the span of the room; each on black until activated with color and sound. Translating my current video to the installation room, the same video sequence would follow on each or all of the screens at the according time.
High quality sound systems and video projections will ensure the brightest color projection and clearest sound. Volume will be adjusted accordingly to provide a loud, but pleasurable experience. The video will play on repeat for viewers to enjoy as many times as they want.
