Bed Corner, 2021
Mattress Cover, Thread, Fiber Fill, Video and Projection
Bed corners have been a consistent symbol in my life. No matter the room or house, my bed has found itself situated in the corner, offering comfort and seclusion in its nested seclusion. Sleeping in this space night after night and year after year provides a consistency despite the ever changing quality of life. Regardless of the day, the night always brings me back to my bed. As a place of history, memory, and growth, my bed corner always remains the same. Thus, this sculpture emulates the bed corners that are so familiar to my life. Above it, is a projection of a window. Through an eight hour time lapse, the passage of time is juxtaposed with the fixed position of the bed. The video cycles through itself endlessly, repeating the descent from light to dark. Calling attention to each passing day, this piece invites viewers to slow down and consider the stillness and stability that a bed offers.
