dream a little dream of me, 2021

Two Channel Video, Found Sound and Color

Created based off of screenwriter Maggie Pollard's screenplay, the video engages in auditory narrative. What is reality? What is dream? Are they really all that different?

Artist Statement:

The film, dream a little dream of me, is a 3 minute, 2 second video work. Based on artist Maggie Pollard’s screenplay, I created a work in which audio is the most important sensory information that the viewer has to take in. The film displays two side by side channels of equal size that represent a relationship to inside and outside. The entire work only has two clips of actual video footage, while the rest of the film is occupied with channels of color. The two clips of video footage specifically exist to separate reality from our imagination. Following a suspenseful narrative, the film engages viewers with a build up of sound to convey chaos and unreality. By exploring the use of sound, I can use the absence of visual stimulation to engage the viewer in an entirely new way. Audio becomes the storyteller on its own. Careful choices of inclusion and omission are clues for the viewer to make sense of their experience. I hope that viewers use the absence of visuals to allow their imaginations to fill in the blanks. After all, dreams are an experience that we can recall by the way they made us feel, more than anything else.
