Three channel projection

Artist Statement:

Little Bit of Sky is a collection of three total projections. The projections create a collaged corner of space in which viewers can enter and be fully immersed. One projection sits on the left face of the wall and merges into a second projection aimed at the adjacent right facing wall. Together, these faces create a seamless corner. Projected into the floor space of this corner is a third projection. Each projection uses video of various sky landscapes, interacting with both natural and artificial elements of the outside environment. Spanning between one or two minutes of video footage, the videos play on a seamless loop to contribute to a space without the awareness of time. Additionally, the continuous looping calls attention to subtleties of natural movement. Raw sound from the organic environment in which each video was filmed accompanied the installation continuously. The room itself was completely dark except for the light of each projection.

By creating this corner space, an entirely new environment is created inside the space of the white cube. Its immersive quality speaks to how the viewer becomes part of the work as they enter into this realm of sky. Additionally, in using the architecture of the room to create an entirely new space plays with projection in a uniquely sculptural way. As a natural result of the piece, associations with memory and nostalgia can be brought to mind as one sits and absorbs all this little space has to offer. Ideally, I would like this installation to be on a much larger scale that encompasses all 6 surfaces of the room.
