Nook, 2021

Nook is a scale model as part of a proposal for a larger public art project. This scale model is about 3' x 4'.

Proposal: 

1. Description

   • String that ranges in light green, dark green and beige color. Situated in the corner of the fourth floor of the The College of New Jersey's library, the string will be installed diagonally from the floor up to the ceiling on both the right and left wall. The diagonal string will overlap and vary in density. It will create a triangular spaced shape, in which the open space created under the diagonal string will be welcome for students to sit. 

2. Explanation

   • This installation will function as a safe haven for students to sit. They can use it to study, relax or decompress. The color gradient is gender neutral and references themes of growth, life and renewal. It’s appearance will allow for a break in the monotony of the rest of the library. 

3. Site

   • The fourth floor of the library emphasizes quiet and focus. Thus the serenity that the piece offers is best suited for this site and can be utilized by many students throughout the day. 

4. Materials and Scale

   • Materials

     1. Reinforced string- most likely over 1,000 feet in total. 

     2. Support bar that string will be attached to. 

   • Scale

     • About 9 feet, from floor to ceiling.
